I wanted to love this. It started out funny and interesting, I was digging the humor with the villain in particular. And then, there was a mention of jingle johnson. Okay, it’s just one, it’s fine. Maybe it’s a substitute so it’s not profanity laced. Then came the f-bombs. Ooookay. Well, there goes that theory. Then came butt waffle. Two words. Butt. Waffle. Okay, you know, it’s fine, I’ll keep going… until the FIFTH mention of jingle johnson. And readers, let me tell you, there was no bell attached. Under no circumstances should that been a jingle nor a johnson here without a damn bell attached.
I couldn’t do it. This one wasn’t for me. I couldn’t get into the weird banter with the two swings either to profanity-laced rants to… well, butt waffles and jingle johnsons. Unfortunately that overshadowed the writing so thoroughly I couldn’t continue, despite really, really wanting to. Unfortunately, this was a DNF for me.
I received an advance copy of this book from the author at no charge. This is my honest, voluntary review.
