Import your BookFunnel library — ARC Library Field Notes

Guide

Copy your BookFunnel library on a computer, paste it into ARC Library, check the books and add them as ARCs.

BookFunnel import adds the books in your BookFunnel library to ARC Library as ARCs, in one go. It is part of Premium, like the NetGalley shelf import.

ARC Library never signs in to or contacts BookFunnel. You copy your own library page and paste it here, and nothing is saved until you press Add.

Before you start: use a computer

Your BookFunnel library is a grid of book covers. The titles and authors are hidden inside the covers, so they only come along when you select the whole page with the keyboard on a computer. On a phone or tablet there is no way to copy them, and the BookFunnel app cannot copy your library either.

You can still finish on your phone. Copy on your computer, then paste on your phone from a note, an email to yourself, or your phone’s shared clipboard (for example Universal Clipboard between a Mac and an iPhone).

Step 1: Open your library on bookfunnel.com

  1. On your computer, open bookfunnel.com in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox and sign in.
  2. Open your library, the page that shows the covers of every book BookFunnel has sent you.
  3. Clear any search or filter.

Step 2: Load every book

BookFunnel only shows the first covers when the page opens and loads more as you scroll. Books that have not loaded are not copied.

  1. Scroll to the very bottom of your library and wait a moment. If new covers appear, keep scrolling.
  2. When no new covers appear, check the corner of the page: Showing 217 of 217 items (with your own numbers). Both numbers should match.

Step 3: Select everything and copy it

  1. Click once on an empty part of the page, away from any cover, so the page has focus.
  2. Press ⌘A on a Mac or Ctrl+A on Windows. The covers turn blue: that means they are selected.
  3. Press ⌘C on a Mac or Ctrl+C on Windows to copy.

You will not see anything happen when you copy. That is normal.

Step 4: Paste into ARC Library

  1. In ARC Library, open Settings → Import, export & tidy and choose BookFunnel.
  2. Click in the big paste box and press ⌘V or Ctrl+V. You should see lines such as “Book cover A New Leaf by Jaime Ryanne”. That is exactly right.
  3. Choose how the books should be filed. Pick the Book type first: not every BookFunnel book is an ARC.
  • ARC (the default): starts as Received · To Read · To Review with ARC Source Author Offer.
  • Personal: a book you own, such as a free reader magnet or a book bought from an author’s store. It has an ownership status instead of an application status, starting as Gift.
  • Beta or Alpha: an early read for an author, with the same statuses as an ARC.

A title BookFunnel marks as a beta or alpha read (for example “Moonfall - Beta Read”) starts as that type. If the books all arrived around the same time, you can also add a Received around date; leave it blank to use today.

  1. Press Read my library.

Step 5: Check the books

ARC Library looks each book up in our catalogue first, then online, and shows a count while it works. A long library can take a few minutes. You can scroll and check books while the rest load, and Add unlocks when every book has been looked up.

  • Ready books matched one book. Their cover, publisher and details come with them.
  • Needs a look books found several editions, a near match, or nothing. Open one to choose the right edition or to add it as typed.
  • In your library books are already on your shelf and are left unticked so they are not added twice.

ARC Library also tidies the list for you:

  • “ARC”, “eARC”, “ARC Team”, “Street Team Copy” and emoji are taken off titles before searching. A matched book uses the catalogue title.
  • Bonus scenes, deleted scenes, samples and first chapters are marked Bonus / sample and left unticked.
  • When BookFunnel lists a PR company or publisher after the title, it becomes the book’s ARC Source (PR Company Offer or Publisher Offer), and the real author is kept. If no author is listed at all, the catalogue match fills it in.
  • A book listed twice appears once. An audiobook and an ebook of the same book stay separate.

Open any book to change its type, statuses, ARC Source or ownership for that book only.

Step 6: Add

Press Add. The books go into your Library straight away with provider BookFunnel. Books we could not find anywhere are added with the title and author BookFunnel listed, and they stay private to your library. Many BookFunnel ARCs are for books the author has not announced yet, so unmatched books are never sent to the public catalogue.

If something looks wrong

  • “We couldn’t find any books in that”: make sure you pressed Select all before copying, and that you copied from the BookFunnel website, not the app.
  • Fewer books than BookFunnel shows: scroll to the very bottom of your BookFunnel library until no new covers load, check that no search or filter was on, then select all, copy and paste again.
  • A wrong match: open the book and choose Report a wrong match. It helps us improve the import.
