As I sit here trying to figure out how to tell people how much I love this book, I’m still crying happy tears over the scene where Abi realizes the cafe crew all consider him family, and I want to start an immediate reread.
I swear I love the Passing Through Cafe series more with every new entry. To be fair, with every book, I get to see all the folks I watched fall in love as happy couples while they support a friend who is falling in love. So it’s like adding new toppings to an ice cream sundae.
Abi and Doc were adorable. I love that they have an instant connection, but both are too nervous to act on it. Abi is nervous/scared by nature; in fact, passing out from being frightened is how he ended up in a body bag at Doc’s morgue. And Doc is concerned about their 12-year age gap (27 and 39). Thankfully, Abi has a sister and a group of friends who won’t let him pass on doctor daddy.
I loved their service top/pillow princess dynamic, and it was wonderful to see how focused and attentive Doc was in respecting both Abi’s needs and his trauma. It was wonderful to watch them fall into an intense but healthy relationship where they met each other’s needs and communicated openly.
Sometimes, love tore through like a hurricane, turning everything upside in the best possible way. With Abi, it was like settling in after a long week, like reading a favorite book, or soaking in a bubble bath. It was comfort and ease and warmth. Abi felt like coming home.
Wrestling With Wrath touches on some dark topics, so please check the trigger warnings. But like always, Nik handles this with incredible care and never oversteps the characters’ boundaries.
The Passing Through Cafe series is my comfort read, and I would recommend it to absolutely everyone. Wrestling With Wrath is a fantastic addition to the series, and I know you will love it.
