I love a good friends to lovers paranormal romance and Wild Wicked Mate has all of that, but this time, it was not for me. Phoebe and Theo have been in and out of each other's lives for many years but they have always come back together. When the two of them team up to help find a missing community member, there’s only so much they can do before their feelings and secrets begin to bubble over.
I really looked forward to returning to Maple Hollow with Wild Wicked Mate but I ended up very frustrated with how the story was being told. While there are some tropes and choices that were very obvious (and expected), it was difficult to fully sink myself into the world. At times it felt like there was just too much going on - there’s the plot that follows Phoebe and Theo’s relationship, then there’s the plot that’s overarching for the series but it felt so fragmented especially when the lack of communication between the characters kicked in. On the other hand,I am now very curious about what will happen in book 3 because this book sets that up very nicely and I am hopeful that it will be better.
