On the day of his ascension to courtesan, Aikos—the best acolyte of Aphrodite—is transported to Olympus by Zeus, who gives him as a gift to eight of the male gods, with the ultimate prize waiting at the end: the chance to decide which of them he will serve.
For a book that is incredibly spice-forward—literally every chapter features Aikos bedding another god—there is a surprising amount of Greek mythology sprinkled throughout. As a huge fan of the tales of the gods, this was probably my favorite part of the book. We're given a new perspective on many of their exploits, each highlighting the humanity that lies within them. I thought this was incredibly well done, lending heart and tenderness to what could otherwise have simply been a series of (delicious) smutty encounters.
Speaking of smut, this book features PLENTY of it, with content warnings before each chapter. I loved how varied the acts were, since it could easily have become monotonous. Instead, we're treated to size kink, speed play, mirror play, BDSM, tentacles, roleplay, exhibitionism, cucking, and impotency, to name just a fraction.
My favorite chapters were Hephaestus and Apollo, perhaps the most tragic of the bunch. I felt like their interactions with Aikos really highlighted how much emotional connection and intimacy can enhance the physical connection. Those chapters especially delivered the blend of heart and heat I was looking for.
I'm excited to continue the Lovers of the Gods series, especially knowing we'll be leaving Olympus behind to explore Asgard and Ancient Egypt next.
