First I want to thank Isla Lockwood and Jess Beyond the Pages for the eARC.
Are you tired of all the fantasy books that are starting to feel the exact same?? If the answer to that question is yes then I highly recommend picking up this book!! It had me completely hooked from the very first chapter.
This is such a fast-paced action packed fantasy. You still get your world building and all of the lore but without the slow lull.
In this you have our FMC Aliwen who is a badass independent woman full of feminine rage. She has been unfortunately captured but she is still determined to escape and to right all the wrongs that have been done against her brother and the Annatalia people. Then you also have our cast of morally gray phoenix riders Kit and Torran that I can’t wait to get more of. I think there is so much more to the two of them than what we have gotten so far. I am hoping we get more answers about what really happened with them and her brother Alex. Then you get our MMC Aster who is absolutely swoon-worthy. They had a relation when they were both younger up until he disappeared. We find out that Aster has gone his whole life trying to protect Aliwen in any way he can even if she doesn’t know it.
I also have to say one of my favorite parts that I did not expect was the sentient books which added to the complete uniqueness of this book. I loved that she broke up the Yule nights chapters and went over what each Yule night was again before starting the chapters that take place during that night. I seriously could not put this book down. Also after that ending I have quite a few questions and can not wait for book two!!!
