I’ve been dying to finally get Crew’s (aka Malice) story, and it was absolutely worth the wait—I am completely obsessed. Crew and Monroe have both been broken by their pasts, and it takes finding each other for them to begin to heal. Monroe lights up the darkest corners of Crew’s life, and he inspires her to start truly living. Dark, tender, and electric, their happily-ever-after is hard-won—and when it comes? Transcendent.
Crew has one of the most tragic backstories I’ve ever read, and it goes a long way toward making him a deeply sympathetic character rather than just your run-of-the-mill violent antihero. His desire to find the kind of love his brothers, Chaos and Sin, have—and his belief that he isn’t worthy of it—had my heart hurting. He has lived in total darkness… until Monroe.
I love Monroe. Sunshine heroines aren’t usually my thing, but she has a tinge of sadness, shaped by survivor’s guilt, that keeps her from feeling like a stereotype. I also loved that she’s a mortician, completely at ease around the dead. It’s such a unique profession—and especially rare in romance—making her feel like a true subversion of expectations.
A real highlight for me was the found family Crew has with the other Heathens. From group texts to advice on wooing a queen, his brothers from other mothers prove just how deeply they love and support him. These men would literally die for each other, showing that family isn’t about blood—it’s about loyalty.
If you love morally grey heroes who would burn the world for her—and heroines who make them want to be better anyway, add All’s Fair in Love & Malice to your TBR.
