Web of Vows and Vengeance surprised me in a lot of ways…some good, some frustrating, but overall very compelling.
Let’s start with the romance. I struggled a bit with how quickly the main character shifts from truly hating this man to being in love with him. At times the emotional progression felt rushed, and I found myself wishing for more time with them together to build something deeper and more believable. There’s definite chemistry between the two, but something was missing.
That said…Aria Ashbrook is bold. No character feels safe. Hearts are broken, alliances shift, and the author is absolutely not afraid to let things hurt. I respect that so much.
The found family dynamic is strong, the deadly trials are genuinely intriguing, and learning about all the mysterious powers kept me engaged. My senses stayed heightened throughout the entire book, as I was always waiting for some of the tension to snap. The ending leaves us with major secrets still hanging in the air and answers clearly coming in the next installment. It definitely makes you want to continue!
If you enjoyed the Powerless trilogy by Lauren Roberts, The Artefacts of Orenos series by Nisha J Tuli, or The Eye of the Goddess trilogy by Sariah Wilson, this one will likely be up your alley.
Also,—if you’re an audiobook reader, the duet narration is SO well done and adds a lot to the experience. And if you’re a romantasy listener, you’ll likely recognize the voices 😉
The book releases February 27, and I’m very curious to see where book two takes us later this summer!
