Welcome to Amery Academy and the world of New Manhattan where freaky electrical storms threaten to turn your friends and family to ash on the regular, your acceptance into "Society" through some pretty barbaric trials dictates whether you have the right to exist, and death and disfigurement are pretty par for the course at school. Sounds like a party to me!
I devoured these 560 pages in two sittings because I just couldn't wait to find out what fresh-new-hell was waiting in the next chapter for our FMC, Poet, and her fellow students at Amery Academy. More trial by combat? Backstabbing "best friends"? Political intrigue? Family drama? BOY DRAMA??? This book had it all and more in every single page.
The students at Amery are your typical teenagers - they want to party and have fun, but they are also beholden to the legacies, hopes, and dreams of their parents and that leads to some very juicy drama. What is more important, making their parents happy or being true to themselves? And what is more important at the start of the book may not be what matters most at the end. We love to see characters coming into their own - or not. I also love imperfect characters and ... yeah, we get some of those too!
Beautifully written, masterfully crafted, and full of moments of WOW, I cannot wait to see what happens in the next installment of Storm Breaker.
