I want to start by saying if you are a fan of S.J. Tilly just know going into this book it is not like her others. I say this because I saw a lot of negative reviews and most seemed like they were just comparing it to her other books.

With that being said I loved this book. I really enjoyed that this was not a typical vampire book. It had a lot of the same themes but I loved the different abilities the vampires possessed.

Volik in my opinion is a walking green flag. He has eyes only for Nix and his dedication to her is the sweetest. To everyone else he is broody, standoffish and someone to generally avoid. When it comes to Nix though he becomes playful, sweet and attentive.

Nix starts out as such a shy introvert. Once she meets Volik though she begins to find her strength (literally and figuratively). Nix went through a lot growing up and really had no family or support system. Once she starts working at the college and makes a friend and then finds Volik and meets his family she finds she now has everything she had been missing.

I feel like the book was paced well with as much information and world building happened in this book. I really look forward to Vameer's book to see what happened to him and what is to come for the whole group.

All together if you like the paranormal world I think you will really enjoy this book!
