Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book

Diving back into CG Drew's newest book felt like a warm hug, if that hug was emotionally vicious and beautifully violent. It manages to pull one's emotions out for the world to see. It drowns the reader in the mind of a young boy who has been preyed upon by the world and bystanders who refuse to get involved rather than bloody their fists to question the violence that thickens the air around them. I loved the desperation to be seen and how that pools into the bond Jonathan creates with Scorpion Deep. As the relationship progresses and we see Jonathan's arc, there begins to be a question of how reliable our MC is, and the obsession to be understood begins to take shape with everyone the young boy has a relationship with, especially with the years of abuse he had been forced to endure.

As always, CG Drews never manages to disappoint with their luscious writing style and the themes of abuse and toxic friendships being tackled with such emotional impact. I wish it had lasted longer, wanting to dive deeper into every bit of lore and how unreliable our narrator was.
