Book: Vicious Princess by Karolina Wilde

This was a solidly entertaining read with a few standout elements I really enjoyed. I especially liked the academy setting and the phantom ranger connection with weapons, which was a twist on magical bonds that was clever and helped keep me engaged throughout.
I also liked the sneaking-around romance between Daegal and Phoenix, and their chemistry mostly worked for me. However, there were moments when they would be making out in situations that made no sense logistically. If they were trying to be secretive, why risk getting caught?
Some plot points felt rushed or were tied up too conveniently, and I noticed a few gaps that left me wishing for more explanation or deeper worldbuilding. I also thought the writing could have used a stronger editorial pass. Certain transitions felt abrupt, and some scenes wrapped up a little too neatly without the buildup they needed to really land.
That said, the story has promise, and I am curious enough about the world to continue with the next book. I hope the sequel offers more polish and development.
