Lilias is a princess sold out by a father who couldn’t care less, thrown into an arranged marriage with Zarek, the "Snake" of Vsenrog. He’s not the golden heir; he’s an adopted prince from a forgotten kingdom, acting as spy and assassin to the king. Watching him fall first while maintaining that dangerous, "trust no one" edge made for a top-tier slow burn.
While her shady former tutor, Blayne, adds a layer of mystery, the real tension lies in the King of Vsenrog’s dark political dealings. The court is full of secrets, and Lilias is right in the thick of it. She’s a resilient FMC who is better with horses than she is with courtly lies, yet she has a quiet strength that catches everyone off guard.
It’s a lightning-fast read, and while I found the magic and world-building a little rushed, the mystery of that elven appearance and the unexpected ending have me hooked for the sequel. There are so many loose ends left to untangle, but I’m here for the ride. Low spice, high yearning, and a bride who tough as nails... I’m ready for Book 2. I will definitely have to read the prequel, Bride of Whispers and Secrets, which centers on Lilias' brother, Prince Elrick, and her handmaiden, Anura
