I need to talk about this book! like seriously wtf! how the hell and just what the actual fuck! Becky jane fox is clearly a masochist because that was f*ing cruel! its like she just turned to EVERY OTHER AUTHOR and said- hmm... I see your cliff hanger, and i raise you 3 twists, a betrayal, a double cross, and a shockingly agonising scene mixed with a heaping pile of trauma, a dash of heartbreak and juuuust a sprinkle of you questioning absolutely everything you ever thought you believed. Seriously, oh my lord, Jesus, the virgin mary and the precious baby donkey -was that a cliff hanger!
>> So is โHEโ a bad guy or a good guy? Are they dead for real? They didnโt really just say THAT?! ok that canโt be true?? Who is playing games here Iโm so convinced in all of their actions I just donโt know anymore! seriously! What. The. Hell!

What a debut novel, this hooked me from the very beginning. It follows the best Romantasy formulaโenemies to lovers, fake dating, betrayal, an intriguing magic system, academia, and dragonsโand it does it well.
The premise was really Interesting, with such original ideas and great twists. I also appreciate when an author doesn't hold back with the gore and death count as I can feel the whole spectrum of feelings.
The writing is great, The flow was great, lots of action and I found the Worldbuilding and magic system really straightforward and fun-but with layers of secrets and mystery- and how the magic works was clever, genuinely unique and very interesting, especially the concept of the โThreads,โ but I did want more details/ depth on it because it was so good. Lyra spent months in the Citadel, which is their magic education system- but I didnโt always feel like I fully understood what she was learning, why she wasnโt learning โXYZโ or how the magic truly worked. Oh, and I loved the concept of the warring factions And,of course the dragons whom are bad guys in this tale.
This series has a lot of potential and magnetism, though there were a few drawbacks. The biggest was the repetitive inner monologue. At just under 700 pages, the book could have been trimmed if some of the repeated thoughts had been edited down. After a while, they stopped adding much to the story.

Lyra is a brilliant FMC, she comes with so much trauma, pain, and pure strength that you canโt help but feel for her. her resilience and determination to take down the Citadel and all it stands for will make you root for her but also it makes you wonder so much about the corrupt system running it. Her inner monologue was fun and revealing, but as I previously mentioned, it was a bit repetitive in places.
Also, in a few points along the story I got really frustrated by Lyra not fully grasping what was happening around her considering how independent and forward thinking she is.
Talen is deliciously morally charcoal to black (not just grey), but I fell hard for him and my own yearning for more interactions and secret observations of one another was palpable!
All side characters were great but Ezzy, Rowan and Finn have a small piece of my heart. Ezzy, sweet Ezzy!

The amount of times I had to put my kindle down and pace to slow my mind and remind myself that this is NOT a real , The anxiety I felt reading this was huge, just the tension and the โwill they/won't theyโ kept me reading this past 5am!
The ending- genuinely shocked me, and I think it sets up a really compelling book two. If you loved Fourth Wing, this will definitely help fill that void.

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
