This was a great standalone novel and is a dual-POV romantasy set in a fantasy world inspired by Southwest Asia. There were great characters, romance, politics and mistaken identity. There were many characters in this story, a few times the names were similar and I did get confused and have to flip back. Some chapters moved slowly while others too quickly. The characters were well developed and their pasts became very important and helped develop the storyline and relationships. The characters and their traumatic pasts help them bond, find peace and safety in each other. The setting was was clearly described. Some parts of the story were heart breaking while others were beautiful.
