Oh, Easton!! He was absolutely adorable as the brother/best friend in book 1, and I was so excited to see him get his man in this book! In fact, the final sentence of my review for book 1 was: “There were a lot of great, interesting characters to be explored in the Storm Season series (hello, Easton & Rune).”
Rune is a complex character. He is short with Easton and has a few moments where he’s an absolute jerk (I mean, who could hurt Ozzie’s feelings!), but from book one, we knew his life as a single father was complicated. As we learn about Rune and meet Elio, his absolutely adorable son, it’s easy to understand and sympathize with the moments when he just breaks.
Early on, Easton’s internal dialogue breaks my heart: “But he hates my guts no matter what I do, and I let him because sometimes I think he just needs that outlet.” He has such a big heart and wants to help everyone, even if they don’t quite know they are his people yet. It’s no wonder he and North are besties.
And Easton and Elio were such a fantastic set of buddies. It’s cute that, from their earliest interactions, Elio champions Easton, even when his dad hates it. It’s clear Easton wants to share all of Rune’s life, not just parts of it.
I loved this one and can’t wait for book 3!
