This book hit me in so many feels. The way the author addresses the topic of "invisible" illness was perfect. As someone with a medical condition people can't see and went through the struggle of finding a doctor who didn't brush off my concerns just because the tests didn't confirm what I was explaining was happening it was so nice to see it written into a book.
Cyrus was definitely a love/hate character. He starts out as a walking red flag (which you know is like a magnetic pull for lots of women lol) I spent the first half of the book so frustrated with him. His development throughout the book is massive. Does he suddenly become a better person and not such a frustrating man.....no. But he does put forth the effort to be better and look deeper into himself to try to be a better person atleast for the people he cares about.
Haven goes through so much between Cyrus and his mother. She is a determined and stubborn person which can be a blessing and a curse. It most definitely was in her case. It was a blessing because she was able to see through Cyrus and eventually able to get him the help he so desperately wanted and needed. It was a curse because she tended to let everyone in her life walk all over her.
Is their dynamic healthy......for the most part no but when the book ends you can tell they are on the right path.
I flew through this book and was shocked to realize it was almost 600 pages! I always worry with books that long that they will be really drawn out or repetitive. That was not the case at all with this book. I actually found myself wanting more.
