This book felt like coming home. It was a fun, quick read (I finished the whole thing in a night), and my biggest complaint is that I wish it were longer, which is probably a good sign. I love this series, so getting to jump back into the world and spend time with these characters again was great. Because this is a collection of Threshing Day stories, it isn't really trying to move the larger plot forward. Instead, we get to experience this specific moment through a bunch of different POVs, many for the first time (but I hope not the last). This book didn't really do anything groundbreaking, but it rounded out the world and characters more.
I had a great time reading the whole thing, but there were some highlights. I LOVED all the different personalities and vibes of the dragons - they've always been such a unique part of this series to me. Sloane's chapter was definitely my favorite, especially because Violet has such a hard time getting through to her for a lot of Onyx Storm. Her grief over Liam (RIP!) and getting an early interaction with Dain was amazing. I also loved Sawyer's chapter because we knew how hard repeating had been from Violet's POV. Getting his side of his second Threshing, and the explanation from his dragon, was so satisfying. And as we already knew, Ridoc and Aotrom are just FUN. They were one of the high points in Onyx Storm to me, so getting to see their bond was so good. Brennan's nerves about bonding and getting to see Xaden killing Alic were a couple other standout moments.
Ultimately, this book hit exactly like I hoped. It's not a full novel and it isn't meant to be. It's a collection of moments that let us spend more time with the characters and dragons that I already loved and see pieces of the world we hadn't gotten to experience firsthand yet. I flew through it, kicking my feet the whole time, and finished it wishing we got another 200 pages.
