Book: Thornfield Nights

Give me a governess, a locked wing and a house that hums at night and I am yours. Ottilie Graves understands that the best gothic novels are slow on purpose — every candle, every creaking floorboard is doing work.
Clara is sharp, funny and refreshingly unwilling to be gaslit, and the romance simmers rather than boils. The final third twists in a direction I genuinely didn’t see coming.
Perfect for: rainy October evenings, fans of Rebecca, anyone who loves a house that is basically a character.
