This book started strong and only got better. The pacing, the character arcs, the political tension… everything felt elevated from book one.
I really thought, in true romantasy fashion, that Vin might end up with Zane, right up until he tried to kill her. That moment fully shocked me. His arc was kind of dark but fascinating, and I’m still not sure if he’s truly gone. I also loved that Vin and Elend ended this book married and Mistborn. That’s the kind of power couple energy I’m here for.
The reveal about the kandra absolutely floored me. I knew something was off, but the OreSeur twist still completely got me. I loved that storyline and really hope we see more of that dynamic going forward. It added a whole new layer to the trust themes running through the book.
Sazed’s growth in this one was another highlight. He really stepped into a bigger role, and I have a feeling he’s going to be critical in what comes next. The ending revelation that the Deepness is actually manipulating feruchemical memories and records was chilling. It changed the entire scope of the conflict in such a smart, terrifying way.
Overall, this was such a fantastic second installment. Tight writing, deep emotion, huge stakes. I’m obsessed and already reaching for book 3.
