World building isnโt great, as Iโm confused about lots of things.
I love a good fantasy book, Iโm here for layers and development and detailsโฆ but I need explanations and depth in order to picture it otherwise it doesnโt flow right.
The writing style is difficult to get used to, but once you do it works well for the story. The author writes with a lot of full stops. You know those sentence that you use when emphasising a point in a low tone, ones where you. Just. Need. To. Prove. A. Point. Well, thatโs the type of writing style throughout. Iโd love to know just how many full stops are used in this book! Iโll even give you a live example from the page Iโm currentlY reading โwhy am I giving her ice? Not cruelty. Not rejection. Ice. Distance. Restraint. The old vow I wrapped around myself and never questioned again. I know what sheโs doing.โ It continues like this on every. Single. Page. This was from page 459,and on this page there is 3 commas, and 21 full stops! -yes, on ONE PAGE!
Iโm at 71% and I still donโt understand why theyโre not together. I donโt get it at all, she wants them and they want her, there is some small brush off explanation about hierarchy being a problem but I donโt understand how or why?! And itโs beginning to make me angry because I donโt get why she hasnโt turned around and said something like โwell if you donโt want me Iโll find someone who doesโ I think she must be a virgin so again why no plans or even thoughts about finding someone who will take her, or make her feel something- for just once in her life, even just a one night stand where they both know the score, even if itโs just one hourโฆ even if saying those things is just a threat to get the guys to take some gad damn action! She clearly has needs, they can scent her desire for them and sheโs not even taking care of things herself -which is another thing I donโt get? Sheโs stressed, in need, frustrated and doing sweet fa about any of it despite the REPEATED claims of choosing things for herself now! Plus, if she took care of her own needs the guys would prob scent and hear it and she may get what she actually wants then!
The most annoying part of this book is the amount of repeated facts and phrases, it could loose a good 80 pages with a decent editor! Seriously whomever edited this needs to quit- soooo many spelling and grammar mistakes have been left in, by arc reader time it should be practically shelf ready! The worst repeated phrase for me is that she keeps stating she is choosing and no longer hiding and then doesnโt back it up. Apart from asking a few questions.
Inconsistencies -
They drove to the safe house but then they took a secret magic way to get there?
Who created the magical all knowing wards? Thereโs no witches?
What is a crown? Is a wolf crown in charge of only wolves? Does every animal have a crown?
What was the war about and who between? Apart from the end of the war being the deciding point to kill all foxes what else do we actually know about it?
Have the crowns had girlfriends? Mistresses? Relationships at all? How do all 4 know they all want her and she wants all 4 of them and why are they ok with that with no jealousy or rivalry?
What made the van crash?

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
