This one unfortunately missed the mark for me. The description had me SO intrigued. Arden is a powerful witch with little knowledge of her ancestry who knows one very important thing. Someone is trying to kill her. Seeking refuge, she finds herself in a sanctuary ruled by a rather impressive collection of supernatural men:
A Fae Lord.
An Elven Prince.
The First Vampire.
A Warlock.
And the King of Dragons.
I mean...COME ON. You give me that lineup AND tell me it's a reverse harem? My expectations were HIGH. Unfortunately, the story never quite delivered what I was hoping for. This is definitely a slow burn , with each of the men gradually helping Arden learn about and control different aspects of her powers. There are mysteries surrounding Arden, her ancestry, her abilities, and the men themselves, but Book 1 left me with far more questions than answers. And for me personally, if you're dangling a supernatural RH featuring that collection of men in front of me, I'm going to need a little more payoff. 😂 I kept waiting for the relationships (and the spice) to really get going.
It's certainly not a bad book. There's an interesting world here, plenty of supernatural mystery, and obvious groundwork being laid for the rest of the series. Readers who enjoy a very slow-burn why-choose and don't mind waiting through multiple books for answers and relationship development may really enjoy this. For me, though, it was just okay. I'm undecided whether I'll continue the series. I'm curious about some of the unanswered questions, but I'm not sure I'm invested enough yet to keep going.
