This book reminds me of the movie, She's All That (1999), except that was high school and this is college.
๐Cliff Notes Review-
If you want a generic mass produced sports smut read then move on because this is so far from that hence the 3* reviews. However, if you want a cocky jock with some growth to make, disability representation and a layered story of morals, life lessons, personal development and self awareness then pick this up now!

-I truly enjoyed the audio.
This was well performed. I enjoyed the range in the male narrators voice, the gasps, breathy whispers and pure feeling in his words created a truly authentic experience.
-But the trophy goes straight to the female narrator- Her intonation and inflections were crystal clear and so believable all the way through. She also had a wonderful range and it was easy and clear to tell her characters apart, She brings an authenticity to the delivery of her characters, using wide range of vocal inflections, tones, accents and genuine feeling to all characters she narrates! Infacr, I went straight over to audible to find what else she had narrated so I could add some to my TBR!

This book completely surprised me.
First up I need to give a disclosure- I donโt really do sports romance. Iโve read a few, some of which Iโve enjoyed, but generally itโs not my genre.
So seeing as Sports romance isnโt usually a genre I gravitate towards I want to say why I picked it up, The Pucking Bet felt far more like a college romance than a hockey romance. Yes, hockey is there, but it never overshadows the story. The focus stays firmly on the characters, their friendships, university life, and the relationships they build along the way.
This one was more than your typical sports plot, There were so many layers to this story. What really stood out to me was how much substance the book had beneath the romance. It tackles important issues like drink spiking, the way women are often treated or judged, consent, and the importance of looking out for each other. These topics are handled naturally and respectfully within the story rather than feeling preachy, adding real depth to what could have been just another college romance.
Around the time that the bet was made public I thought it was the end of the book, I expected maybe 30 mins more when actually that was just the middle which really surprised me. I couldnโt see where the author was going to go with this now what with having another half of the book to fill. So I was pleasantly surprised to know that the bet wasnโt the main part of the plot, just a starting point.
I also loved the little details, like the representation of synesthesia (experiencing colours when hearing sounds), which made one of the characters feel even more unique and memorable.
Beyond the romance and spice, this book is full of kindness, accountability, respect and strong moral values. It reminds you that being a genuinely good person matters just as much as being a good romantic partner.
Those messages are woven into the story so naturally that they never feel forced, making the characters and their relationships feel much more authentic.

What was the deal with Isobel? Why did she have a vendetta? It annoyed me we never got to the bottom of that!
Kieran agrees to a bet with a hot girl he wants to bed, Yes this is bad, but the author acts like he it was murder. Now, Iโm not condoning this, because I agree that he uses his privilege to seduce her. But everyone does that, everyone stacks the board to their advantage to get what they want, itโs a human trait. Yes he did it more than others could have because he had status to lean on but I donโt believe it was as bad as the author forced it to be. The mmc didn't force her to do anything that she didn't want to do, he was kind, considerate, loving evenโฆ it may have started as a bet but he tried to stop it early on and then again, and againโฆ and it annoyed me that was never said in his defense, I genuinely believe it should have been a factor because his view point changed, his attitude changed and it only seemed like he was carrying on with the bet to the outside world when he was actually dating her normally.
I also didnโt like the no contact bit, I believe he should have grovelled and bled for her, shown he was man enough to take the consequences and own up to his actions. Not just hide away and pretend it didnโt happen. But thatโs a personal preference.

I came for a romance and ended up getting a story with heart, humour, important conversations and characters I genuinely enjoyed spending time with. This wasnโt just a romance. It was a reminder that respect, integrity and looking out for others matter. I finished the book feeling entertained, but also appreciating the way it quietly encouraged empathy, accountability and kindness without ever losing sight of the romance.

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands
It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.
I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.
I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.
Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.
Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!
WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!
This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
