Loving a Witch is Totally Foolish by Aura Hayes is a paranormal dark rom-com, and is the second book of the Total Chaos series.
We first met Zav and Celine as the main characters in the first book, Loving a Vampire is Total Chaos. Ava is Celine’s pink-haired, boisterous best friend. She is also the FMC in this story. She is dealing with a broken heart after breaking up with her long time boyfriend. Work is also not the same with Celine not there. Oh, she also found out that she has her own vampire mate?! This is too much.
Valen is a vampire that has been held hostage for centuries. The world is incredibly different than it was the last time he was able to walk the earth. He didn’t think he would ever see freedom again, or a life not full of torture. When he was saved by Celine, he didn’t know what to do with himself. He certainly didn’t expect to walk in and meet his mate…Ava. How do you even court a lady now? Especially when you can’t handle being touched, and you also fear being taken captive again.
Valen and Ava have to work through building a friendship, Valen learning how to function in this overwhelming city, learning to use contractions, and finding out he likes a certain vampire tv series. Still, all is not well in Chicago. The rain is getting worse, someone is copy-cat-ing Zav’s work (very BADLY if you ask him), and well…Valen is having to deal with Zav. He is exhausting to a reserved and quiet ancient being like himself.
They will have to all work together, along with Luna (and eventually an unexpected guest), to figure out what is going on. How does this relate to the real reason Valen was taken? Is Ava the key to it all, since she actually isn’t a human after all?
Like the first book, you will laugh, get warm with the spice, and again with the tension of not knowing what is going to happen to the characters you have grown to adore. I think this one has more serious and sweet moments, just due to Valen being who he is and Ava’s heart.
Loving a Witch is Totally Foolish comes out on April 15th, so there is still time to pre-order. I want to thank Aura for letting me be a part of the ARC reader group. My review and opinions are all my own. I will now be eagerly anticipating the third book, that comes out in December 2026!
