What a phenomenal conclusion to the trilogy. I loved that Sazed was revealed as the true hero, and how Vin’s journey culminated in her transformation into Preservation. The ending managed to feel both earned and unexpectedly hopeful, without resorting to plot armor for everyone.
One of the things I appreciated most was the consistency of the worldbuilding. Every twist and turn had a purpose, and the rules of the magic system never bent just for convenience. Spook gaining a second power, for example, was not random - it had a clear explanation tied to Ruin’s influence.
I also loved that Ruin was not just a generic “big bad.” It was not villainy for villain’s sake, but a force of entropy and chaos, which gave the conflict real weight and reasoning. The reveals were clever, the stakes were high, and the payoffs were incredibly satisfying.
A perfect 5/5 for me. Sanderson stuck the landing, and I thoroughly enjoyed every twist along the way.
