Reapers by Thea Lawrence
⭐⭐⭐⭐½ (4.5/5)
I love jumping back into the world of Thea Lawrence's serial-killing cowboys. This time, the series focuses on hacker and the most yearningest ex-husband Raphael, and former motorcycle club president turned cage fighter, Wren.
I am HEAD OVER HEELS for Wren. Honestly, "cage fighter" was the only description I needed to know I'd love her. She's seriously buff, but she still rocks black eyeliner and red lipstick. I LOVE IT. After a lifetime of men disappointing her—when they aren't straight-up trying to assault her—she knows exactly what she wants: to be in charge. And she finds plenty of ways to express her feminine dominance, whether that's cutting off fingers or bending her ex over her bike. I love how complex and unapologetically unique she is.
And Raphael? He's such a SIMP for Wren. He lost her once, and he's determined to win her back and never let her go again. I love how protective he is of his loved ones: his older brother, his sister-in-law, and Wren. They can all hold their own, but Raph still wants to do his part to keep them safe. He's intelligent, quick-witted, and SO DIRTY-MOUTHED. Basically, he's my newest obsession.
Together, Wren and Raphael have a lot of emotional baggage to work through, and they do it in the most scorching ways possible. I'm giving them ALL the chili peppers for their spiciness.
The story unfolds across multiple timelines, weaving the present day with glimpses of the past to show how Raph and Wren came together and what ultimately tore them apart. I LOVE some good nonlinear storytelling, especially when it adds depth to a second-chance romance.
The motorcycle club business drives most of the action, delivering plenty of delicious violence and conflict. I was kept on my toes, wondering how Wren would escape the loser president of the new club where she's a prospect.
A highly satisfying conclusion to the Blackthorne Ranch duology. I cannot wait for Redemption, the spinoff following Gus, Wren's former sergeant-at-arms, whom I am now DOWN BAD for.
