I love a billionaire MMC and a Plus sized FMC so let’s start there. I braced myself for a predictable rich man hero setup. Especially since the MMC was white, but this wasn’t that.
Alex could have easily been the typical white wealthy hero. He could have been arrogant, disconnected, and a little narcissistic. Instead he’s much more complex. Despite his access to resources, he is not the hero. He is supportive in a way not a lot of rich MMCs are written.
Chanice is a fighter shaped by a difficult life, often doubting whether she deserves good things. She was relatable and likable. What starts as an uncomplicated physical arrangement driven by proximity and circumstance, not romance, evolves naturally into a beautiful friendship, partnership, and eventually family. I like that she was the one who wanted a casual hookup and not the man. Both characters are dealing with their own struggles and problems. Alex longs for Chanice to feel safe, secure and happy. Chanice wants the same for him and from him, but has learned to expect less.
The supporting cast was a good addition. The siblings bring a sense of warmth, familiarity, and family, and I already know Carter is getting a book. Deidra, Elizabeth, and Mrs. Whitmore? Hated them but that hate was necessary lol. This story was a good representation of how family can both hurt you and heal you. A example that families aren’t a monolith.
Overall, while I typically don’t read interracial romances, because I usually don’t like the dynamics, I enjoyed this one. If you’re looking for an interracial billionaire romance with a plus size FMC, you’ll enjoy this one.
