The Book That Finally Got Me Out of My Reading Slump

Book: The Death-Made Prince by Lisette Marshall

I’d been putting off reading The Death-Made Prince for ages, despite so many people recommending it to me. I genuinely have no idea why. Not only that, but I even bought it when it was on sale and then proceeded to let it sit there, untouched, like the sensible person I apparently am.
Do I regret waiting so long? Absolutely.
But also… maybe not, because if I’d read it earlier, I wouldn’t have had this book waiting for me when I desperately needed it. I hadn’t properly read anything in months, and somehow this was the book that finally dragged me out of my reading slump.
I fell in love with Thraga almost immediately. I loved her voice, I loved the OCD/ADHD representation, and I loved how completely herself she was. And the prince? Unfortunately, I am in love. 🥰 There will be no further questions at this time.
Although for approximately 80% of this book, my primary thought was: PLEASE JUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TENSION ALREADY. Every bit of banter, every almost, every moment they got close only made it worse. I was suffering.
Then comes the argument, and the second she storms off on her own I already know nothing good is going to come from it. Naturally, she gets caught.
And then…
The cave scene.
Can we TALK about the cave scene???
Because I am still there mentally. I may never leave.
I went into this book expecting to have a decent time and instead came out completely obsessed with the characters, the romance, and this world. It pulled me out of a months-long reading slump, which honestly earns it a special place in my heart all by itself.
Now I’m ridiculously excited about the novella and Book 2 because somehow that random sale purchase turned into a full-blown obsession.
No regrets. 🖤
