This latest instalment in the Guardians of Alistile series is nothing short of brilliant. Samantha Vargas really pushed her craft here! The world building is chef’s kiss , the characters evolve beautifully, and the whole story feels richer and more immersive than ever. I adored every moment. A well‑deserved 5 stars.
I’m honestly relieved that The Ashborn doesn’t fall into the typical sequel slump. The world keeps widening, the stakes keep shifting, and suddenly every character feels like another piece on a constantly evolving chessboard. I love that I can’t confidently label anyone as right or wrong. It all feels deliciously murky by design. While Kienna wrestles with where her loyalties truly lie, we’re right there with her, caught in the same impossible choice.
I’ve really loved the multi‑POV structure in this book. It made me genuinely invested in characters I barely connected with in Risen From Ash , which is why a certain death hit me like a freight train. No spoilers, of course, but let’s just say I absolutely sobbed and had to make myself another cup of tea just to recover.
The Ashborn is the ideal read for anyone who craves characters refusing to be defined by the paths laid out for them. Who choose instead to carve out their own destiny with fire and determination. I will definitely be reading the next instalment of the Guardians of Alistile series. Watch this space for any news regarding future projects by Samantha Vargas.
