This is a prequel to the Monster Research Facility series, this story takes place fifteen years prior to the events in those books.
Calliope Wright is fresh out of college and get a job at Melsbach Research Facility. Dr. Akimov, the head scientist, after asking if she believes in life on other planets, he shows her an alien entity they found and are studying. The alien, called X-11, can change forms, like active camouflage. After trying to get him to eat for a while, Dr. Akimov tries another tactic, he tricks her into his cell and locks her in with it....
Anyway, I found that I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is a quick read and a good introduction to the Monster Research Facility world. She is very good at world building and it is very well written. It has piqued my interest and I will be putting the others on my TBR soon.
