I enjoyed Chloe and Wes's fake-dating romance. Listen, I'm a sucker for coworkers with a contentious relationship that results in TONS of sexual tension, and Chloe and Wes delivered.
Poor Chloe. My heart really went out to her. She's been in love with her best friend James for over a decade and genuinely believes him when he makes them a marriage pact. Except ten years roll by, they're both single, and they're STILL not together. In fact, he's met someone new and wants to marry her after ONE MONTH. How absolutely devastating. Chloe is an intelligent woman—a freaking trauma surgeon (!!)—who thinks quickly on her feet, which is how she ends up fake-dating super-hot fellow doctor Wes, her low-key nemesis.
And Wes? I am in LOVE. He's the bad boy of the ER, with his playboy ways and motorcycle riding. His past relationship wounds have made him all about casual hookups... until Chloe. He never realized his boss could actually be fun or that they had so much in common. He's willing to play along as Chloe's fake boyfriend long enough for her to get James's wedding called off. But that was before he really got to know her. Now he's falling hard, and he has to convince Chloe that he's a better choice than the man she's spent a decade loving.
Chloe and Wes's relationship is a SLOW burn. The first 75% of the book gives heavy love-triangle vibes, but because James isn't actively pursuing Chloe, I wouldn't categorize it that way. Just know that Chloe has a LOT of feelings to untangle before she can recognize what's developing with Wes. Their relationship is hard-earned, which makes it that much more satisfying when things finally turn serious.
