I want to start off by thanking Rhiannon for allowing me to be an ARC reader in this book.
This is one of those books that will leave you wondering did I finish the book or did it absolutely finish me. In this case I think it finished me in the best way. This is my first book by Rhiannon but will definitely not be my last.
This is a book that starts off as a Salem Witch retelling but ends up being so much more than that. It’s hard to explain the amount of emotions this story brought out in me (grief, loss, anger, happiness, and love are just some of the few). It follows Amity who is a young witch that ends up in Salem with her family. This story is about finding your true self and learning that you need to be true to who you really are. You can’t live a full life if you are always hiding. It’s about love and loss and overcoming your greatest obstacles. It’s about showing up for the people who matter the most in your life. It’s also about the growth in Amity as well as her decision on who she really wants and needs to be.
And the love story that is woven throughout is absolutely beautiful. Do you pick the reliable guy who will put you first above all else. Who will support you and take care of you no matter what. Even when he knows you’re lying and keeping secrets. The safe choice. Or should you pick the Witch that she feels like she is fated to. The “bad” guy……but he is the one you have the pull to……and the tension. He is the guy who seems to hate you but all you want is him to love you.
This book covers some tough topics between the Salem witch trials, the murdering if innocent people, postpartum depression, but I think Rhiannon does such an amazing job handling these tough situations and bringing this story to life. Her writing style makes it really easy to immerse yourself in the story and feel like you are truly walking along with Amity and going through all of the feelings and emotions right along with her. This is one of those books that’s going to live with you for a long time. That you are going to just continually think about because it hits you that hard.
