Chase Lovett Wants Me is my favorite Helena Hunting book, and I won't lie, I was worried that the second book in the Tilton University series wouldn't live up to my high expectations. Thankfully, my worry was completely unwarranted because Mac Meyers Needs Me captured the same first-love swooniness that made me love the first book so much.
I went into the book already loving Ophelia (aka Fee), having met her in If You Love Me from the Terror series and witnessed her amazing BFF skills in Chase Lovett Wants Me. She is one of my favorite types of heroines: innocent-looking on the outside with a filthy mind on the inside. The girl has layers! Her crush on Mac is adorable, and her fear of being rejected by him and making things awkward within their friend group is totally relatable. I also really liked how she expressed herself through her art and had goals completely unrelated to Mac.
And Mac? SWOON. Swoon, swoon, swoon. I am obsessed with the flirty virgin hockey player with the filthy mouth. His mutual crush on Fee? YES!!! He is so golden retriever coded (please see his dad joke in Chapter 1), and I live for him being the best boyfriend ever. He supports and encourages Fee's art, makes a conscious effort to show her that he is interested in her for who she is and not for her hockey connections, and becomes a safe place for her to open up about her family. The man is perfection.
I absolutely love them together. They have a foundation of friendship that makes their relationship fun, and they slot into each other's lives so naturally because they've already been there. They are equally sweet and spicy, comfortable being open and exploratory together. Even though Mac doesn't know where he'll end up after graduation, I had zero doubt that he and Fee would go the distance.
I am super excited for Gage's book next. A girl living in his closet? I NEED MORE.
