Book: Whiskey Flirt by Walker Rose

Whiskey Flirt was a great small town, country, romance about a baker and distiller, both trying to atone for some less than savory actions in their pasts. From the start we learn that Cruz grew up hard and fast until he found his "real" family in the Baileys and his eldest brother Myles. He has become a stand up citizen in Huckleberry Springs, as a part owner in Foster House distillery, and a homeowner, sharing property with his brother Lane. He may have a playboy reputation, but we don't really see much of that in the story because from page one, he is completely set on making Elodie his.
Elodie has been rebuffing Cruz left and right. She spends all her time working and taking care of aging parents as some kind of penance for her past mistakes. When she finally starts to give him a chance, they are sizzling off the page with their chemistry. I would consider this almost a slow burn because it takes Elodie so long to finally give in. They definitely make up for it quickly though.
I was really impressed with the emotional connection Cruz and Elodie have with each other. They seem to complement one another very well. You can tell they both feel seen and loved.
There is a good amount of suspense built by the end, and the conclusion feels authentic while still feeling hopeful and romantic.
I know I will be happy to go back to Huckleberry Springs again soon.
