I read this book based on the blurb, having not read any of the other books in the series. I will have to go back and fix that, because I kind of fell in love with the Bradshaw family. Matriarch Dierdre is a boss- like a mix of Martha Stewart and a family therapist- she can give the best advice, manage anything, and still be a kick butt grandma.
Ruth is stuck trying to get her life back from being blackmailed by the father of her child so she makes a desperate move to try to get some money from Tucker Bradshaw. She doesn't get exactly what she wanted, but she does walk away with a fake boyfriend and the promise of money to come. Tucker sees Ruth as a way to get his mom off his back about dating and settling down. They reach an agreement to pretend for a couple weeks until Ruth leaves town to take another job.
Unfortunately, baby daddy won't let go of Ruth. Tucker steps up to help keep Birdie and Ruth safe. Tucker makes a wonderful protector and father figure to Birdie, and it doesn't take long for him to start to think of her as his own.
This is a sweet story about a single mom doing what she has to and a man who didn't know what his life was missing. It's romantic and heartwarming, and a lot of fun.
