Oh, what a beautiful but also ugly and heartwarming but also heartbreaking story of Paul, a black man, and Jane, his white employers’ daughter and granddaughter, beginning in 1930s’ Kentucky. He essentially raised her from birth, and they had such a sweet familial relationship. Theirs was a story of love, loss, music, war, the navigating of Jim Crow laws and the treatment of black people in the US during the first half of the 20th century. I was enthralled through the whole book, and I’m hoping that there will be a sequel like was mentioned in the author’s notes! Not in this World: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
