Thank you to St. Martin's Press | Wednesday Books and Netgalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and freely given.

This one was a miss for me, unfortunately. I DNFed at 11%. It had an incredibly strong start with a girl locked in a castle tower for reasons unknown. Her mom forced to paint every week until she achieves a what would be a shockingly difficult goal. The day comes that she does the impossible, and she’s taken away from the tower and her daughter now forced to paint in her place. Then we get to what I assume is the main male character and I can’t explain it, but my eyes glazed over and I checked out of the story completely. I struggled to get back into it, but the momentum of the opening was lost. The tone and style changed so thoroughly, I thought it was a separate story entirely. I can’t explain the shift, but it made it so difficult to get back into the place I was at the start. I might give this one a try as an audiobook in the future.
