🧛🏻♂️ ARC Review 💀
"Before she can argue or continue what her miserable muskrat of an ex started, I pluck the Team Edward mug from her hand -- spider-monkey did not, in fact, hold on tight -- and deposit it on the bedside table."
So fun! So fun! I'm just in my Halloween Vampire era for 2026 and I am loving it!
I didn't love all of the characters, but that's the amazingness behind Alina's writing. She made me care about the characters because the backstories were written so tenderly, nuanced, and in a way that made me want the MCs to succeed really early on.
Aisling is this quasi-broken woman who's also bright, curious, and determined. She doesn't let life get her down and tries to show a harder face to the world than she's really feeling. I LOVE her background as a Folklorist and want a whole book on her just going through the museum's Archives and teaching me all sorts of new things.
Benny is portrayed as this strong, fearsome vampire, but in his own way, he's a soft, squishy fellow inside. He's endearing even while he's terrifying at the same time. Who can trust a bloodthirsty vampire? He is not a 'vegetarian'!
The writing brought me in immediately - like page 2 I was cackling. I love Alina's style and how the characters' inner monologues or dialogue would have these random asides, much like my own mind. It was SOOOOOO relatable. 🤣
I blasted through this book in just over two days and it totally left me wanting more! 😭 Why isn't there another book yet? I'd love to revisit these characters, and this world as a whole. I liked the lore unique to this world and how it doesn't feel like it has to follow some sort of paranormal canon.

Triggers: Death, Violence, Gore, SA, Gaslighting, Language (I don't normally highlight language, but this one is riddled with the F word, so if you don't like this kind of dialogue, it's
not really skippable)
