Caroline has always been the perfect, obedient daughter to her state senator father. But when she’s inadvertently caught in a scandal, she turns to a stranger—Miles—for help.
Miles is focused on one thing: maintaining his sobriety. He agrees to fake date Caroline with the understanding that it will go nowhere. He’s not ready for a serious relationship. But when fake dating turns into checking items off Caroline’s sexy bucket list, Miles might not be able to keep his distance.
I absolutely loved this one. I read it in a single sitting, completely hooked on Caroline and Miles’s story. This is the third book in the Lennox Valley Chronicles, but it can be read as a standalone. That said, Brixton’s writing is so good that you’ll want to read the first two (especially since Book One follows Miles’s older brother, Jude).
Caroline is a walking green flag. Despite her privileged upbringing, she’s grounded, kind, and devoted—founding a youth charity before stepping away to care for her grandfather. Her compassion and warmth shine on every page. I totally understand how Miles fell for her, because I did too.
The Miles of the past may have been a man to avoid, but the Miles of today is working hard, working out, and working on himself. As someone who grew up around alcoholism, I deeply appreciated how Brixton portrayed the ongoing fight to maintain sobriety—it’s raw, realistic, and handled with so much care. Caroline’s unwavering support, paired with their mutual understanding that Miles needed to fight for himself above all else, was powerful and beautifully written.
If you’re looking for a level five chili pepper romance with heartfelt emotion, parallel journeys of self-discovery, and genuine connection, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.
