I so wanted to like this one more than I did. I just never felt fully immersed in the tale, although I did eventually get invested in the characters.
The Tudor vibes were strong, with a King in this one was very reminiscent of Henry VIII (wives and all). But this story was definitely its own.
It took me a bit to really into the story. About 50% in, I started to better understand our FMC’s motivations and background, and felt a bit more invested, and connected to her character.
The slow burn romance was definitely my favorite part, especially as it pertained to their shared grief surrounding the boy they grew up with.
I was definitely pulling for them by the end, but I still found myself questioning whether I would want to continue on with their story after the cliffhanger (which I was not really expecting 🫣), and unfortunately, I think the answer is a sad “no”. 😔
Audiobook notes: Samantha Hydeson’s was absolutely perfect for the vibes of this one. And she gave a great performance throughout.
