To be honest, I've been struggling to write this review. Why? I was provided with an ARC copy of this book, and I had some struggles with the story as a reader.
As a reader, it didn't engage me enough in the beginning, and it felt like it took until the middle of the book to get to the real storyline. The pacing finally picked up toward the end, but by that point, I felt more relieved that something was finally happening than satisfied with the story itself.
With all that said, that could have been the author's intention. Maybe they didn't want to give you too much at the beginning, pull you along for a ride, and then give you a reason to want to read the next book at the end.
I had issues with a LOT of repetition. It felt unnecessarily long. There were chunks of chapters that I could have sworn I'd already read in a previous chapter or the chapter after.
So yeah, I'm really struggling with this because I want this author to succeed, and I think they are building a world that is truly fascinating. But I struggled to enjoy the journey through that world, even though I could see its potential.
