Slow burn is starting to pay off

Book: Mind & Matter by Kate Messick

After the slow burn of book one I was ready for things to start heating up and this is starting to deliver! Each of the guys has their reason for keeping Quinn at arms length and they all feel valid. Cayden is now head and shoulders my favourite character; my heart is breaking for him as not only is he processing trauma, his whole world has been spun on its axis.

The drama ramped up too and with the tension of Xan entering Quinn's life, Rowan's suitor drama and Cayden's past making an appearance. The body snatchers though caught me off guard and it felt like there were definite stakes involved as it had been pretty low angst until that point. There were some brighter moments though particularly with the Quinn's friends Brit and Everly, normally revolving around Everly trying to encourage Hero as a suitor. The cliffhanger though totally knocked me for six and is a total gamechanger. Not quite a launch my kindle moment but it was a proper jaw drop!

My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
