Book: The Rebel and the Rose by Catherine Doyle

The first book was a 3.5 for me; this one is lower. It was originally supposed to be a duology, but it ended up as a trilogy. I won’t be reading the third book.
The pacing was so damn slow... It left me frustrated just reading about Seraphine afraid of breathing, so at some point I skimmed a few chapters because give me a break...
At least the story picked up on the... 60% mark? Give or take? So I thought it would be one case of a slow start, then everything happens, wraps up, and that’s it.
Think again. Another cliffhanger: throughout, the FMC has no idea what she is doing, ignores caution, and has to hide behind the MMC once again.
As the book is, after all, intended for YA (12 to 17), those plot twists are quite obvious, enough to be seen from miles away.
In the end, I closed the book and thought: What the heck did I read? It felt like one of those stories that start with everyday lives, maybe searching for answers and end up with rebellion and magical wars where everyone is overpowered.
Maybe I’m too old for those kinds of stories.
