I enjoyed the premise of Morgan and Knox's dark rom-com. When Morgan needs a plus-one for a gala, she hires an escort to save face. What she doesn't expect is that the man she actually ends up bringing isn't an escort at all, but a SERIAL KILLER. And now he's obsessed with keeping her safe.
I really felt for Morgan. Her mother was murdered in what the police are calling a "random act of violence," and her cheating ex left her for his mistress. But Morgan knows there's more to her mother's death, and she's determined to uncover the truth. Meanwhile, she's dealing with multiple attempts on her life AND a handsome, tattooed menace who needs to know where she is at all times. It would be enough to overwhelm anyone, but Morgan handles it all surprisingly well.
And Knox? YUM. He's a killer of the vengeance variety, going after people who hurt others. I am ALL for it. Above everything else, he wants to protect Morgan, and he's fully transparent with her about who he is and what he does. Plus, a man with sexy tattoos, money, and grandma hobbies? YES, PLEASE.
The mystery surrounding Morgan's mother's murder had some twists and turns I wasn't expecting. I appreciated how it tied into the danger Morgan was facing while providing the forced proximity that brought her and Knox together.
