This one was rough for me. I had a really hard time getting into Huntyr and Derian’s story and I kept picking it up and putting it down for months. Over the last couple days though, I felt something that pushed me back to the book and I think Shadows and Secrets came at just the right time.

Huntyr Lachlan is Velia’s deadliest assassin and she is determined; her life’s goal has been to exact revenge on the fae prince who destroyed her family. When chance offers her an opportunity to do just that, her plan goes out the window. Derian is the mysterious ruthless prince who has been sent to Velia. When he sees a beautiful dark-haired woman he is intrigued and cautious because as enchanting as she is, he knows there is more than meets the eye. What happens when two people suddenly have to work together as mysteries and secrets begin to unravel.

I didn’t expect to fall in love with the world and the characters like I did. Between the deadly trials and budding relationship between individuals who will do everything to deny it, Shadows and Secrets is a mesmerizing story. This is the story that I have been waiting for. The plot and romance are well-balanced and the characters take on a life of their own as they add to the overall story. No single element overpowers the other and the writing/narration is smooth and flows beautifully.

Thank you to Arcadia Rayne and NetGalley for the gifted ARC. All opinions are my own.
