Sofia Kent, better known as Lady Vesper, has spent nearly two decades searching for the child stolen from her by the Bratva. Nothing has ever been enough to stop her, and when she finally gets close to the truth, she's forced to work alongside the one man who has always been a thorn in her side: FBI Special Agent Tristan Clarke.
Tristan has his own ghosts. Six years after losing his wife and daughter, he's still hunting the person responsible, desperate for answers and unable to let go of his grief. When he and Sofia discover they're chasing the same target, they have no choice but to work together.
The chemistry between these two was absolutely electric. Their banter was sharp, entertaining, and filled with tension from the very beginning. I loved how Sofia brought out a darker, more reckless side of Tristan, while Tristan became the one person who made Sofia feel safe enough to be vulnerable. What made their relationship stand out was that Sofia never changed who she was for love. She remained strong, ruthless, independent, and completely herself, and Tristan loved her for exactly that.
One of my favourite things about this book was how beautifully Tristan's grief was handled. His love for his wife and daughter was never diminished by his growing feelings for Sofia. It's such a delicate balance to get right, but it was done perfectly. Despite everything he'd lost, Tristan never lost his heart. He protected Sofia, listened to her and respected her boundaries.
The suspense had me on the edge of my seat. The mystery surrounding both Sofia's search and Tristan's hunt for justice kept me hooked, while the steamy scenes delivered plenty of heat. Add in the emotional punches, shocking revelations, and absolute chaos of those final chapters, and I couldn't put it down. Watching Sofia finally get answers after so many years and seeing Tristan find the closure he desperately needed was incredibly satisfying.
Heartbreaking, suspenseful, steamy, and emotional, this story gave me everything I love in a romance. The characters felt real, the chemistry was undeniable, and the ending left me with all the feelings. Sofia and Tristan were perfectly matched, and their journey is one I won't forget anytime soon.
