Olivia Anderson has returned home to Chicago after spending 7 years in New York. When she starts working with the Chicago Strikers, she reunites with her brother, Henry Anderson, and his best friend, Wesley Hayes. As Olivia finds herself having to start over again, she’s tired of being inexperienced and sets out to ask her temporary housemate, Wesley for lessons.
I really enjoyed the mental health component in this story even if it wasn’t a particularly main focus. As individuals, Olivia and Wesley are both undergoing and overcoming different issues they face; together, Olivia and Wesley, are supportive and see through to one another, becoming strong figures who choose to be where they are. I love that they fight for one another even as they try to come to terms and fight with themselves.
As this is the second book in the Chicago Strikers series, there are characters and various relationships that have already been established, but even though I have not read the first book, I did not feel lost. Instead, it gave me additional appreciation for the found family element, just like how Olivia finds herself enveloped into her group of friends.
