Anaconda Team aren't done yet after vanquishing Ember's personal monsters in book two. I really liked how we got a whole book to focus on the kingpin himself and the suspense of how they were going to bring him down had me hooked. Although there is still some friction from time to time, the team is evolving into a family and they truly deserve their HEA! Poor Tom though - I genuinely felt sorry for him being the last to know everything!
Ember's continued mental health struggle is dealt with sensitively and the connection between her and Jude was a real highlight. Learning to accept herself as she is whilst also mourning who she was has been a great plot in amongst the drama surrounding Nolan.
I have been a fan of Warner since Harrowdean but Blaine almost knocked him off the top spot! I loved his character development and he has come so far from the cocky charmer we met in book one. Of all the characters, it felt like Blaine had the most going on in this book - there were some real twists I didn't see coming! I'm still a Warner girl at heart though.
It's not just Blaine who has things to work thorough though; Axel has to deal with processing his feelings toward Gunnar whilst recovering from his injuries in book two. I liked how he wasn't magically better after five minutes; snarky whilst recovering Axel was good fun. The banter is still sparkling and the spice is definitely spicing, but not so much that it distracts from the plot and it felt pretty well balanced.
I love this big interconnected universe and that epilogue feels like we are about to see some kind of team up in the next book!
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
