Emerson Lane is the MMC I didn’t know I needed. I also didn’t expect to cry but this second chance(?), friends-to-lovers story is perfect. Henley Cole is a chef in New York who suddenly finds herself back home after her life is turned upside down. Emerson Lane is a racer who has relied on the sport for years to cope with his past. When his career is suddenly on the line, he returns home to take some time off, he finds himself on the plane seated beside the one person who has haunted him.
Henley and Emerson both have inner demons they struggle with. One of the things that made me fall for this small town romance is that both characters choose to be there for one another. Though time has passed and they clearly have a shared past that drove them away from each other, they work through it together even though they may be afraid. The love and support they have blew me away and this book hit me in a way I didn’t expect. Emerson’s character said something that made me cry because it was something that I needed to hear but at the same time Henley’s character makes me feel seen and understood.
All in all, Riding the Curve is a wonderful story and I think it’s a perfect way to kickstart the fall season!
