I was glad I did the tandem read with Empire of Storms, because while the new setting and side characters offered some interesting expansion of the world, I found myself getting bored at times and genuinely irritated whenever the focus stayed on Chaol’s drawn-out personal struggles, I felt like he was just a whiny baby most the time.
